Shawnee Kennel Club, Inc. was organized in 1957 by a group of fanciers to further the advancement of all breeds of purebred dogs and to encourage sportsmanlike competition at dog shows and obedience trials.  Sanctioned matches followed, and the American Kennel Club approved our annual dog shows.

Along with all the work and cooperation of putting on the shows, the  members and their friends have enjoyed nearly forty-five years of interesting and informative meetings and many enjoyable get-togethers.

The club has sponsored educational programs, such as symposiums, workshops, training classes, famous speakers from  the schools of veterinary medicine, dog show judges, professional handlers, and authoritative writers covering a wide range of subjects.

Shawnee Kennel Club, Inc. is a member club of the Virginia Federation of Dog Clubs and Breeders, which is a state-wide organization that disseminates information about legislation, matches, shows, and other dog-related matters, and publishes a dog show calendar, a match judges book, and the Virginia Federation Breeders Guide.

Generous contributions from profits of Shawnee's dog shows are donated to civic and animal welfare organizations who care for creatures great and small where the pedigree is unimportant but the need is vital.
